Arrest of STL operator pits governor vs police chief in South Cotabato

KORONADAL CITY–The bid to resume small town lottery (STL) operations in South Cotabato province triggered a rift on Wednesday, Sept. 26, between Gov. Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. and Col. Joel Limson, the provincial police commander. Tamayo and Limson traded barbs over the arrest of Walter Ozaeta, a small town lottery (STL) operator known by his alias Mike Macalindong who happened to be facing charges of kidnapping in Batangas province. The governor ordered Ozaeta’s arrest following their Sept. 19 meeting at the governor’s satellite office in Tupi, the governor’s hometown, after Tamayo learned about Ozaeta’s case from a local official in Batangas. Tamayo accused the police chief, Limson, of “not doing his homework.” “He should have conducted a background check,” said the governor. “This guy has a warrant of arrest for kidnapping,” Tamayo said in Filipino. Ozaeta, 35, resident of San Jose town, Batangas province, had been endorsed to Tamayo by Limson, paving the way for a discussion on

Source:  Remate News Team https://remate.ph/operasyon-ng-lotto-balik-normal-na-suspensyon-tinigil-na-ni-pdu30/

Duterte probe of corruption in PCSO to be swift – Palace

Bong Go MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Monday said President Rodrigo Duterte’s investigation of corruption in the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) would be swift, holding out hope of an early return of the agency’s gaming operations that he ordered closed during the weekend. The shutdown has left thousands of small investors suddenly out of business and their employees without jobs. As of Monday, police had padlocked 30,284 PCSO gaming outlets. Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo gave assurance of an early conclusion to the investigation, noting that the President worked fast and wanted to get to the bottom of a “grand conspiracy” in the PCSO that led him to order the immediate closure of lotto, small town lottery (STL), Peryahan ng Bayan and Keno. Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go, a former special aide to the President, also said the closures were temporary, but the outlets would remain shut until corruption in the PCSO had been eliminated. Verbal

PCSO gaming ban to stay until end of gov't probe: Palace

MANILA-  (UPDATE)  The ban on all gaming schemes of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) will stay until the government finishes its investigation into alleged corruption within the state gaming regulator, Malacañang said Monday. President Rodrigo Duterte will  identify  all personalities involved in the massive corruption within the PCSO "in due time," his spokesman Salvador Panelo said.   "Sa ngayon kasi sabi nga ni Presidente iniimbistigahan niyang maigi. I-identify niya lahat. Until such time na hindi pa natatapos yung imbestigasyon, sarado muna 'yan," Panelo told radio DZMM. (Right now, the President said he will investigate it thoroughly. He will identify everyone. Until such time that the investigation is concluded, all of those stores will remain closed.) The PCSO meanwhile assured the Palace that it will continue to follow President Duterte' suspension order until further notice. "The PCSO supports the decision of our de

NATION Nationwide inventory of PCSO-related cases kicks off

MANILA, Philippines – Court Administrator Jose Midas Marquez on Monday ordered all judges and branch clerk of courts nationwide to do an inventory of all pending cases involving the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) and inform him of its status. “The PCSO cases report form shall be submitted on or before August 15, 2019 accompanied by a certification from the Judge and Branch Clerk of Court concerned. Strict compliance is hereby enjoined,” read the Office of the Court Administrator Circular. The order was issued in view of the “serious allegations of massive corruption” involving small town lottery and other gaming franchises by the PCSO. Marquez said some cases have already reached the courts. The Court Administrator said he issued the circular after discussions with Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin.

Did stubborn PCSO employees trigger Duterte's order vs gambling?

President Rodrigo Duterte's surprise order is borne of his frustration over supposedly corrupt PCSO personnel resisting their transfers to other sectors, says an insider Many a person's Friday night was ruined when Malacañang aired President Rodrigo Duterte's  "special message"  in which he ordered a stop to all gaming operations regulated by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PSCO). Aired late night on Friday, July 26, the video was a surprise to many. Even more so when the next day, PCSO officials said they would ask the President to reconsider his order, indicating they did not agree with it and would have likely advised against it. So what triggered Duterte's blanket order? A source close to the President said that while Duterte has long raged over PCSO corruption, what drove him to issue a new directive was word that allegedly corrupt PCSO officials and employees were fighting a PCSO board decision to reassign them to another sector.
